Wisdom from Sushant Singh Rajput
As many of you know about me, I love watching Bollywood movies, and singing and dancing to their soundtrack. Bollywood is so ingrained inside me that Bollywood stars appear regularly in my dreams while I am sleeping! Sushant Singh Rajput recently came into my dreams for the first time for 2 nights in a row, on June 30 and July 1, 2020, which never happened before. In one of the dreams, he was happily and excitedly helping me set up a school for children. For the past several years, I have been wanting to create a school for children where education would focus on life skills first, such as relationships and breathing, prior to various traditional subjects. Who would have imagined that Sushant Singh Rajput would be supporting me in this dream of mine!
Since it was the first time that a Bollywood actor came in my dreams for 2 nights in a row, I became very curious about him. As I learnt more about Sushant, I surprisingly realized how we are so similar in numerous ways, as though he is my reflection. Here is a list of several common traits:
- He is born in Patna, Bihar, and all my roots are from Bihar.
- All throughout our childhood, we both have always been quiet individuals. We both get a bit uncomfortable while speaking to others. However, we both enjoy our solitude time!
- He studied mechanical engineering, while I pursued electrical engineering. He loves physics, while I love mathematics. And we both love solving scientific equations on whiteboards!
- He enjoyed Bollywood dancing and was part of the Shiamak dance group. Bollywood dancing plays an important role in my life, and I took dance classes with Shiamak. I also had a Bollywood dance school for several years.
- He listened to the Namo Namo song multiple times a day, as do I, and believed in Lord Shiva’s divine presence. We both believe in the power of science and spirituality.
- He has a tooth that is pushed back at the bottom near the right side, and I have one too.
- We both are interested in and passionate about multiple areas of life, such as science, cinema, entrepreneurship, education, and more.
- Most importantly, we both aim to be good human beings that can serve the global community.
There are hundreds of more similarities between us! However, I want to celebrate the wisdom that has been etched into my soul from this extraordinary enlightened being, Sushant Singh Rajput.
- Keep on smiling ways: Sushant taught us that no matter what challenges he was facing throughout his journey, he kept on smiling! He knew that life will always have ups and downs, and that his innocent smile would bring joy to others, especially to his fans!
- Be completely driven by excitement: In many of his interviews, Sushant emphasized the importance of his excitement for any projects that he took on. That was his key motivation for his life and the reason for his happiness. He was so excited about life that he only slept for a few hours a night! A quote that best summarizes this: “I’d try to be damn excited about living, setting goals and having fun.”
- Thrive on the unknowns: He looked for narratives that he never experienced before because he had a sense of curiosity to thread the waters of the unknowns. For example, he picked and played diverse roles such as a cricketer, a detective, a bandit, a middle-aged father, and lastly a cancer patient. By doing this, he would grow as an individual to new heights. Life is all about pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones and learning how to deal with unknowns, and this is exactly what Sushant did.
- Transform grand dreams into actionable goals: In the famous words of Sushant: “Dreams are meant to be dreamt, dreamers are actually doers. Usually when we remember the whys of our dreams, the hows take care of themselves.” He was a dreamer and he worked relentlessly to manifest them into reality. Several years back, Sushant had written down 50 grand dreams that he wanted to accomplish in his lifetime. For example, he wanted to explore Europe by train, write a book, play chess with a champion, train women in self-defense, teach dance to kids, and make a documentary on Swami Vivekananda. He also has taught us that we all need to have a balance of personal and global goals in order to have true fulfillment in our journey, and to believe in these goals so that they can miraculously happen.
- Live in the present moment and life to the fullest: He strongly believed in the essence of living every moment of his life to the fullest. With his mother passing away when he was 16 years old, Sushant realized that anything can happen at any given time. So why not live in the present moment and live it to the best? As Sushant said, “I have also learnt that one should not dwell in the past or in the future. The ‘now’ is what matters.” This is why we can see that he was determined to accomplish his 50 dreams and not waste any precious moment of his life.
- Be an avid learner and embracing all topics: Sushant was not solely interested in Bollywood. He had a keen and equal interest in a wide range of topics, ranging from sports, science, philosophy, education, and much more. He would research and read on all these topics for hours so that he gained in-depth knowledge about them. This demonstrates his breadth and depth of his knowledge base, and enthusiasm for learning. And most importantly, he would share very excitedly with everyone what he was reading or learning.
- Pursue passions and attain mastery: He put 100% of all his efforts into anything and everything he did, such as Bollywood dancing and learning cricket. Due to his hardworking nature, within 2 years, he was one of the lead dancers of Shiamak Davar group; he became the best and popular TV actor within a few years of starting television; and won the best male debut for his first film. On his own time, he mastered playing the guitar, doing clap pushups, mirror writing and playing sports ambidextrously. This mastery transformed him into a super talented gentleman in various domains that he was passionate about. It is obvious that he always executed with his full potential in everything he did.
- Share brilliance humbly: Only about 1% of people in this world are ambidextrous. Since Sushant was ambidextrous, this indicated that his left and right sides of his brain are pretty much symmetrical and balanced, which is rare and a sign of brilliance. Throughout his journey, he expressed his brilliance in various forms, such acting and posts. For example, in one of his social media posts, "The lesser the preconceived ideas, the closer the ‘observer’ gets to the truth of the ‘observed’", Sushant wanted to share a philosophical thought that if we remove all the conditionings that we have absorbed from the external world, we the observer will be closer to the truth or the higher divine consciousness. This demonstrates his level of brilliance and his desire to share it humbly with the world to make it a better place!
- Be genuinely generous: Sushant was known to abundantly give to others. When a fan requested for his help, this actor donated money for floods in Kerala. He has sent two children to NASA, and wanted to send 100 more to help to fulfill their dreams. He was also generous with his time, such as he would take the time to listen to fans sing, and reply to his fans’ messages on social media. He had an abundance attitude and spread generosity everywhere as it gave him a sense of fulfillment to serve others.
- Honor spoken words: Many people usually say things that they will do, but don’t mean it. Sushant was different - if he said he made a promise, he followed through with it. For example, he said yes when a director asked him to be in his film long ago, and Sushant kept his words without even reading the script. This shows that Sushant was a committed individual who honored his words.
- Remain always pure and noble: We live in a time when purity is something people don’t think of nor talk about. However, for Sushant, no matter how famous he became, he did everything with true purity and made sure his actions were noble.
- Be a good human: His life’s guiding principle was ultimately about being a good human being. Throughout his life, he found ways to serve others. For example, he promoted women to achieve their entrepreneurial ambitions. He wanted to change the education system for children so that they have the life skills of ‘why’ and ‘how’ before learning the ‘what’. Being a good human being is an aspect of his legacy that we will always remember.
These are the key wisdom from Sushant Singh Rajput that I will cherish forever. Every time I look up at the midnight sky, I know that Sushant is shining bright as a magical north star for me. He is spiritually and eternally within me, guiding and inspiring me to reach my infinite potential that I can use to serve humanity.
Oprah mentioned that our legacy is the number of people we touch their lives. For me, Sushant Singh Rajput’s legacy is “Bollywood’s Brilliant and Beloved Bolenath”.
