Wisdom from my Mom
Every mother plays a special role in each of their child’s journey. While raising us, our mother will cook, do our laundry, drive us around, plan birthday parties for us, give us allowances, make sure we complete our school work, be our nurses when we scratch ourselves, tell us stories, sing lullabies to us, and much more. On top of all this, our mother tries her best to teach us the ways of living in hopes that we can have a better life than her.
In my case, my mother has taught me multiple wisdom about life. Here are the top 3 wisdom from my mother.
- “If there is a will, there is a way”: As long as I can remember, my mother would consistently tell me that if there is a will, then there is definitely a way. She knows clearly that if she has a desire or a will for something, nothing will stop her to achieve it because she has full faith. And she has shown me on multiple occasions that this statement is true. For example, she really wanted to buy a specific house in Montreal, and after 1 year of challenges, this house was finally hers. And my mother has reminded me to have strong faith in my desires and their intentions no matter what obstacles I may face in its course. At the time, I didn't quite understand these words of wisdom, but now I know better. If we desire something with a pure heart and belief, the universe will make it come true somehow and create a path to achieve this desire.
- Do everything with excellence and honesty: When I was a kid, my mom asked me to wrap a gift for someone. Keeping in mind that the wrapping paper will be shred to pieces and that no one cares how one wraps a gift, I got in trouble for wrapping the gift poorly. My mother mentioned that it does not matter how big or small the task was or for who you are doing it, it was important to do it excellently and with honest intentions. I realized that it is important for us to perform each action with honesty and excellence as all our thoughts, words and actions are tied to our karmas. As a result, this positive karmic action will bring more happiness and peace in our journey.
- Be independent: Throughout the course of her life, my mother always demonstrated that she would prefer to be independent as much as she can be, such as never asking money from friends, seeking any job on her own, or learning to drive so that she did not have to bother my dad for errands. I admire her for valuing her independence, especially as an Indian woman. Because of her, I have always tried my best to figure and do anything on my own first, and rarely ask for help from anyone. By being independent, our self-confidence increases because we trust ourselves to be competent in the situations we are confronted, our self-esteem is boosted because we have a positive outlook on ourselves.
Despite all the hardships that she encountered in her journey, she continues to have a generous soul filled with unconditional love. I am definitely blessed to have a mother like mine because I have learnt alot from her. We are a special bond that is beyond words. Together, we have sailed through various challenges and have come out much stronger than ever. I continuously pray that my mother always remains happy and serene, and that all her desires come true :).
