Visualize your Ideal Career!
This post is a guided meditation that is focused on your career. My intention is that I truly want to help you to be extremely successful and happy in your career!
One of the most powerful meditation techniques to attain your desired career ambitions is visualization. It is a simple technique where you create a vivid mental image or vision of anything you want. The key aspects of visualization are that you are imagining that you already achieved it and that you are using all your senses (listening, feeling, tasting, seeing, smelling) to make your image more real. By visualizing, the benefits you gain are:
-
You build your internal motivation to go for your ideal or perfect career
-
You program your brain to focus on the resources or network you need to achieve this career
-
You activate your law of attraction to start drawing these resources you need for your ambitions
By setting aside a few minutes a day (before going to bed or right when you wake up), this daily practice of visualizing can rapidly accelerate the achievement of your career ambitions. Visualization has been widely used by many top performers, such as athletes and actors. For example, Muhammad Ali would see himself win the boxing match before the actual fights, while Jim Carrey would regularly picture himself as the greatest actor when he was young. If visualization meditation technique played an important part of their career, then why don't we incorporate it into our lives?
So let's get started! Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Bring your attention to your breath, and take a few deep breaths so that you come to a more calm and relaxed state. The calmer you are and connected to yourself, the stronger your visualization will be. There are 5 parts to this visualization session that you will be guided through:
-
Ideal career role: First step, what is the ideal career role that you want to fulfill in the near future? Say in your mind your ideal role: "I am the Head of Customer Care, or Senior Hardware Designer, or Director of the Research team". Now, visualize yourself doing this role, such as developing the marketing campaign, or implementing the feature request, or talking to the customers to understand their needs.
-
Goals for your role: Next step, let's define the goals you want to achieve with this role if you got it. For example, how many X units do you want to sell if you want to be a Sales Representative? Do you want to implement new communication strategy if you want to be VP of Communications? Do you want X customers using your product if you are the Senior Product Manager? Visualize you completing your goals for your ideal role...
-
Skills needed: What are the skills you need to be the best at this role? Perhaps you need to improve your analysis or communication skills? Or you need to learn a new skill, such strategic thinking or project management? Imagine that you already have these skill sets you need for this role...
-
Perfect work environment: Now take a moment to create the perfect work environment to support that role you want and to help you be successful. What kind of colleagues do you want to work with? What kind of leaders do you to be inspired by in your work environment? What kind of culture do you want to be part of? Visualize that you are already working in this perfect work environment...
-
Actions to take to make this happen: Now that you know clearly what you want for your role, goals, skills and environment, the last step of this visualization is to think of the actions you need to take to achieve your career ambitions. What do you need to do to make it happen? Maybe you need to take a course to gain that skill or shadow someone to learn more about the responsibilities of the role. Maybe you need to find a sponsor or mentor who can give you advice and help you network. Think about the next steps or actions you need to achieve your career ambitions...
Let's take some final deep breaths and then open your eyes.
Final words: This visualization technique can be applied in many other aspects of your life, such as financial, hobbies, relationships. So try it out at your own time. And my advice is to really believe in your visualization and that you have the power inside you to make it come true!
