Visualize
Visualization is a simple yet powerful technique where you create a vivid mental image or vision of any desires you want to attain in your life, such as becoming the best version of yourself or having a successful career. It has been widely used by many top performers, such as athletes and actors. For example, Muhammad Ali would see himself win the boxing match before the actual fights, while Jim Carrey would regularly picture himself as the greatest actor when he was young [1]. If this visualization technique plays an important part in their lives, then why don't we incorporate it into our lives?
By visualizing your desire, the benefits you gain are [2]:
- You build your internal motivation to go for your desire.
- You program your brain to focus on the resources or network you need to achieve this desire.
- You activate the law of attraction to start drawing these resources you need for your desire.
There are 5 parts to include in your visualization:
- Ideal Desire: First step, what is the desire in its ideal state that you want to fulfill in the near future? Say in your mind your ideal desire: "I am financially free from my student loan", or "I am the gold medalist for the 100 m run". Now, visualize yourself fulfilling this desire.
- Goals for Desire: Next step, let's define the goals you want to achieve with this desire. For example, how many songs do you need to write for your next album? Or what are your targeted revenues for this year? Visualize yourself completing these goals for your ideal desire.
- Skills Needed: What are the skills you need to be the best at this desire? Perhaps you need to practice your sketching or improve your presentation skills? Or you need to learn a new skill, such as e-commerce? Imagine that you already have these skill sets you need for this desire.
- Best Environment: Now take a moment to create the best environment to support that desire you want and to help you be successful. What kind of people or support system do you need? What kind of culture do you want to be part of? Visualize that you are already in this perfect environment.
- Actions to Take: Now that you know clearly what you want for your desire and its goals, skills and environment, the last step of this visualization is to think of the actions you need to take to achieve this desire. What do you need to do to make it happen? Maybe you need to take a course to gain that skill or rearrange your kitchen to be a more fun environment to cook in. Or you need to find a mentor who can give you advice and help you network. Think about the next steps or actions you need to achieve your desire.
By setting aside a few minutes a day (ideally before going to bed or right when you wake up), this daily practice of visualization can rapidly accelerate the achievement of your desires. Before you perform this visualization, take a few deep breaths so that you come to a more calm and relaxed state. The calmer you are and connected to yourself, the stronger your visualization will be. Using all your senses (listening, feeling, tasting, seeing, smelling) during the visualization will make your desire more real. Lastly, you really need to believe in your visualization and that you have the power inside you to make your desire come true!
