There is a Reason...
Back in 2008, I decided to share my passion for Bollywood dancing by teaching at University of Waterloo. I remembered being ultra nervous since my first time to teach a Bollywood dance class. However, the enthusiastic faces of the students helped ease my nerves and build my excitement to teach!
Fast forward 10 years to a day in January 2018, Arjun Gupta, from this U of W batch that I taught, ramdomly messaged me about an opportunity. It picked my curiosity, so I touched base with him to learn more about it. He mentioned that he enjoyed my classes and teaching style at U of W, and wanted me to choreograph a Bollywood performance for his friend's wedding. I was touched by his words about our time at U of W, and I was honoured that he wanted me to be part of this wedding! However, I was a bit hesitant to commit to it due to my intense career priorities. As well, it has been several years since I choreographed for any dance performances.
Then, I remembered one of my new year's resolutions for 2018 - to lead in areas that I was passionate about. Of course, Bollywood is one of my closest things to my heart. And I think the universe was responding to my resolution wishes. So, I decided to give it a shot, and it has become one of the best decisions I made this year.
I was blown away by Arjun's friends, who showed such determination and hard work to learn the Bollywood performance for this wedding. Each practice was filled with lots of fun and laughter that made my day. On our last practice, Arjun's friends gave me a gift that touched my soul deeply - they created a card with all their faces tied to the Bollywood movies (can you guess these movies?) that were part of their performance! I am definitely keeping this card forever with me!
Arjun and his friends came into my life for a reason - to remind me of the joys in sharing my love for Bollywood with such amazing individuals, and creating wonderful memories with them. I am extremely grateful that they gave me a reason to live...
