Book: The Mastery of Love
If you have enjoyed “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz, then you may also like another of his books, called “The Mastery of Love”.
The author takes us on a journey from mastering the following 3 aspects: our awareness, our transformation, and our love. By following these 3 steps, we can realize our divine nature that is our birthright.
Right within the first several pages of this book, I was intrigued by an insightful story about serving the master, and the concept that we are all masters who can apply our unique powers. Ruiz provides several snippets about childhood, as a gentle reminder of how life should be, which resonates with my beliefs. Over time, we have lost our ‘child-like’ spirit along the way, and let our fears from various tough situations get the better of us. Once we aware and address those fears, we can move from the awareness to the transformation stage in our journey. In the latter one, we heal and recover from any wounds, and become a playful and loving spirit that we innately are.
There are several other concepts in this book that I agree with, but there are 2 that I want to highlight: suffering and dream. Ruiz stated that “we are not here to suffer”. I believe that we all have to deal with certain negative karmas that we may have performed in this lifetime or a past one. However, our attitude towards these karmas should be about an opportunity to learn and grow, not as a suffering. It is all about how one perceives a situation that can change everything in one’s journey. And another point I agree with is that we are all living an illusionary dream. Everything exists in our perception, therefore we don't see things as they really are - we see them how we are conditioned to see them.
Throughout the book, Ruiz tries his best to simplify the 3 stages and intertwine them with various analogical stories so that you can grasp his concepts. If this is your cup of tea, then read this book.
