Book: Shakti Leadership

Anju Sharma - Shakti Leadership

Right after I completed my yoga teacher training in 2014, I had a desire to pursue a PhD where I would research extensively on how yogic philosophy can be effectively infused into the business leadership. At that time, I jotted several ideas in my notebook, such as to create a spirituality quotient to help leaders assess and understand their own spirituality so that they can use it for the benefit of the organization. Once this spirituality quotient was determined, the leader can choose from various spiritual business frameworks to adopt and incorporate into their business.

Fast forward several years, I randomly came across Nilima Bhat and Raj Sisodia’s book called “The Shakti Leadership”. The authors explored the yogic concept of having the natural balance of male and female energies in leadership management. Both males and females are needed in business as each energy body brings unique qualities and skills that can elevate the overall consciousness of the business, thus leading it into greater success.

It was refreshing for me to read a powerful leadership model that leverages yogic wisdom and unites the masculine and feminine energies to cocreate a holistic future. I enjoyed the ‘heroic journey’ chapter, where the authors first want us to question the individual we are so that we can eventually awaken as a conscious leader. The emerging ‘conscious leader’ concept resonated with me as it is about the upliftment of humanity by providing meaningful work, spreading prosperity, and enabling everyone to live a fulfilling journey. I also like their definition of a ‘dharmic’ life, where it isn’t only about a specific career, but more about who you are and how you show up in the world with your energy.

I was so thrilled to read this book as it was my first time to find a business leadership book that focused on spirituality. I believe that we need more books like this to empower leadership around the world. Perhaps, one day, I might reconsider my yogic business ideas that I had jotted down several years ago and put them into a book ;).
