Poetry: Ask Your Heart...
When the Ordinary Becomes Sacred: My Journey with "Ask Your Heart..."
In our fast-paced world, it's easy to rush through life, ticking off tasks, chasing goals, and often missing the quiet miracles unfolding around us. We're conditioned to look for grand events, monumental achievements, or dramatic shifts to define our happiness or our blessings. But what if the profound is hidden in plain sight, woven into the fabric of our everyday existence?
This is the question that my short poem, "Ask your heart...," urges us to consider:
Ask your heart...
When the moisture of a warm raindrop touches your skin, is this a blessing?
When the fragrance of a blooming flower enters your nose, is this a serenity?
When the song of a delighted bird surrounds your ears, is this a bliss?
When the sweetness of a favorite dish touches your lips, is this a paradise?
When the aura of a humble person appears before your eyes, is this a miracle?
Ask your heart...
For me, this isn't just a poem; it's a personal mantra. It's a reminder to slow down, to breathe, and to truly feel the world around me. Each line prompts me to engage with my senses, not just passively, but actively, seeking out the deeper meaning in what I experience.
The Divine in the Details
Think about it:
- The warm raindrop. It's not just water; it's nature's gentle kiss, a reminder of renewal, cleansing, and the sheer gift of sensation on our skin. Is it a blessing? Absolutely, when I allow myself to feel it without judgment, without rushing to get inside.
- The fragrance of a blooming flower. So often, we walk past beauty without truly inhaling it. But when that exquisite scent reaches us, it's a moment of pure, unadulterated peace. Is it serenity? Without a doubt, a fleeting yet potent calm in a chaotic world.
- The song of a delighted bird. In the hustle and bustle, we might only hear noise. But if we pause to truly listen to that joyous melody, it's a surge of pure, unburdened happiness. Is it bliss? It can be, if we open our hearts to its simple joy.
- The sweetness of a favorite dish. Beyond satisfying hunger, it's the comfort, the memories, the simple pleasure of nourishment. Is it paradise? Perhaps not an eternal one, but certainly a momentary slice of heaven, a reminder of life's simple, abundant gifts.
- The aura of a humble person. This is where the poem transcends the purely sensory and delves into the spiritual. When we encounter someone whose presence radiates kindness, grace, and genuine humility, it's profoundly moving. Is it a miracle? In a world often focused on ego and achievement, genuine humility truly feels like a divine encounter, a testament to the beautiful spirit residing within us.
The Wisdom of the Heart
The repeated invitation, "Ask your heart...," is the core of this poem's power. It’s a call to bypass the analytical mind, which too often dismisses these small moments as insignificant, and instead to consult our deepest intuition, our inner knowing. Our hearts, unburdened by judgment or expectation, instinctively recognize the truth, the beauty, and the sacredness in these simple experiences.
This poem has become my guide to mindful living and a profound source of gratitude. It reminds me that life's most precious treasures aren't always found in grand accomplishments or material possessions, but in the quiet, often overlooked moments that, when truly felt and acknowledged by the heart, reveal themselves as blessings, serenity, bliss, paradise, and even miracles. They are, in essence, invitations to experience the divine in the ordinary.
What moments in your day, when truly felt, reveal themselves as something more profound? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
